The composition of the coupling parts:
There are two types of couplings for screw air compressors: Rubber pin type and flexible (diaphragm type) couplings.
1.The rubber pin coupling consists of two half couplings, flywheel, transmission core and screws. The rubber drive core of this type of coupling is easy to wear and wear, which will cause the machine to move unevenly, which will have adverse effects on the rotor, bearings, and shaft seals. At present, it is gradually replaced by flexible couplings.
2.The flexible coupling is composed of two half couplings, connecting barrels, transmission gaskets and screws. The two half-couplings of this coupling are tested for dynamic balance, and the relative positions are fixed during installation.
The coupling is an important part that transmits the power of the motor to the active rotation of the compressor. Due to the high speed of the screw air compressor, the requirements for the installation accuracy (coaxiality) of the coupling are also high. Improper installation of the coupling will not only cause the machine to run erratically and increase noise, but also cause abnormal damage to the rotor, main bearing, thrust bearing and shaft seal, resulting in overhaul of the main engine.
Coupling Features

- Except for the starting and braking stages, the main and driven parts of the steel ball safety coupling have no speed difference, no friction loss and high transmission efficiency.
- Nonmetallic elastic elements are adopted in the steel ball type safety coupling, which can compensate the offset of the linked two axes within a certain range, with a small amount of buffering and damping.

Determining the right type of flexible coupling starts with the following analysis of the application:
- Prime mover type (motor, diesel engine, etc.) of the drive side of the system
- Actual horsepower and/or torque requirements, not prime motor-rated horsepower (note the range of variable torque caused by periodic or unstable loads, worst-case starting loads,
- Drive system inertia related to prime mover inertia (data available from equipment supplier)
- vibration, linear and torsional vibration (experienced supplier or consultant can help you evaluate vibration) shaft-to-shaft deviation;
- Note the degree of Angle offset (axis is not parallel) and parallel offset (distance between axis centers when axes are parallel but not aligned);
- Also note whether the drive/driven units share the same floor axial (inside/outside) axial motion,
- whether they share distance (the distance between the drive end and the driven axis), and any other space-related restrictions.
